Building knowledge about leading teaching and learning in Hertfordshire schools
The HertsCam Network results from a partnership between the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education, Hertfordshire Children Schools and Families and schools from all phases of education in the county of Hertfordshire. The focus of the network is ‘leading teaching and learning in Hertfordshire schools’. This is both concerned with practical activity to improve teaching and learning in participants’ schools as well as building and sharing knowledge about how this can be achieved. There are over 250 teachers represented in the Network and the membership also includes other professionals working in or with schools. People become part of the network when they join either the Herts MEd in Leading Teaching and Learning or one of the many school-based Teacher-Led Development Work groups. Teacher Led Development Work groups are school-based and jointly led by experienced school staff, usually graduates of the MEd and a tutor appointed by the Faculty of Education. Their purpose is to provide a framework of support for teachers who want to initiate and lead a process of change or improvement in their school. The network holds a conference each term in which teachers lead workshops and mount displays in order to share accounts of the development projects they had led in their schools. Network members receive a regular newsletter and a database describing members' interests and the development projects they have carried out. We would like to post information about other teacher networks so please email David Frost ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. HertsCam Network Events These events are an entitlement for all members of the Hertfordshire MEd community and all participants in the Teacher Led Development Work (TLDW) groups. All past members are also invited to retain their membership of the network and attend the events. The purpose of the events is to enable network members to share what they have achieved and learnt through their development work and to gain inspiration and ideas from each other. There are two kinds of events; the Annual Conference at Robertson House and a series of Network events hosted by schools. The aim of the Network events is to create space for teachers in which they can:
The events are all twilight sessions and will usually start at 4.30pm and finish around 7pm and will feature workshops, sharing circles, themed discussions and presentations. CANTARNET (Canterbury Action Research Network) CANTARNET was established in 1996 to support teachers' leadership of enquiry-based development work. Initially, it brought together participants on a school-based MA programme through regular conferences offering keynote speakers, workshops to support enquiry and scholarship and opportunities for teachers to share ideas and discuss issues relating to their leadership of school change. A journal, 'The Enquirer', was launched to publish teachers' accounts of their work. For further information please click here CANTARNET
