Why was the shed taken away?
Written by Ashley, Oliver, Stephanie, Chandler, Georgina and Lydia (Year 3)

Introduction

There was a stone shed that the Reception class kept their toys in. We liked it but it was taken away. We think it was because it was too small to fit the toys in and old and that is why the school got a new one. We wanted to find out what really happened. Nobody has done any research about this before. These were our research questions.

* Why was the shed taken away? * Was it taken away because it was rusty? * Was it taken away because it was old? * Was it taken away because the children were being naughty about it? * Did you like the shed?        * Did you play round the shed? *  Do you think it was fair that the shed was taken away?

Methodology

We chose interviews to collect our data because we wanted to tape the voices so we could hear them over again. We also thought it would be fun to meet people in school and speak to them and help them understand what we were saying.  We interviewed five adults and five children. We chose the adults because we thought they might know about it. We chose the Year 6 because we thought they might remember something about it.  We did a pilot interview and found out that some people didn't know which shed we meant so we told them about it.  We used a tape recorder. We found out we needed a quiet room to interview people in. We had to keep what people said anonymous. We also had to ask people if they wanted to take part in our research.

Findings and Discussion

We found out that the shed was taken away because it was old and had material in that was bad for kids. It had asbestos in the roof. We thought we would find out that the shed was taken away because it was too small for toys and it was getting old and falling apart. We also thought it was because the children were being naughty. Our data tells us that it was taken away because it wasn't safe. Our data shows that most of the children played round by the shed. We thought that all of the children would like the shed but they didn't . We were also surprised that most people thought it was fair to take the shed away. We were not surprised that there weren’t any adults playing round by the shed.

Conclusion

If we could do our research all over again we would improve it by changing the question but we would still do interviews so you can make more friends especially if they are new to the school. We wouldn’t do anymore research about the shed because we've found out what we want to know.
